Democrats won every statewide office on Tuesday’s ballot, electing Keisha Lance Bottoms governor and flipping the lieutenant governor, attorney general, and secretary of state posts long held by Republicans.

In the state House, Democrats are within reach of their first Georgia majority in more than two decades, with eight races still uncalled Wednesday, some within recount range. Republicans appear likely to keep a narrowed state Senate majority of 29-27.

Democrats flipped eight Republican-held state House seats while losing two, and need three of the five uncalled districts they lead to control the chamber.

Democrats also won both Public Service Commission seats, giving the party a 3-2 majority on the board that sets Georgia Power rates.

Republicans kept nine of Georgia’s 14 U.S. House seats Tuesday, leaving the delegation’s 9-5 split unchanged.

Every state Republican incumbent won, and the party held onto three open seats, including electing Houston Gaines in the 10th District and John Cowan in the 11th.

The closest race was the open 1st District coastal seat, where Republican Jim Kingston defeated Democrat Amanda Hollowell by under 3 points. Hollowell said she will challenge the result. Kingston’s father, Jack Kingston, first won the seat in 1992.

Democrat Jasmine Clark, winner in the 13th, rounds out the state delegation’s four newcomers.

Article Icon 1The Battery Powers Braves Profits

Through the first nine months of the year, Atlanta Braves Holdings posted a $12.5 million adjusted operating loss from baseball operations and $55.8 million in adjusted operating income from The Battery Atlanta, its mixed-use development next to Truist Park.

Third-quarter revenue rose 4% to $325 million, helped by two postseason home games, while operating income fell to $9 million from $39 million as costs climbed.

The results come as Major League Baseball’s labor agreement expires Dec. 1.

The company has traded publicly as a standalone company since July 2023, when Liberty Media, which bought the team in 2007, split off the Braves and The Battery into a separate Nasdaq-listed company.
