Article Icon 1AES Blast Anniversary Spurs Safety Push

One year after an explosion killed 16 workers at Accurate Energetic Systems, Democrat state Rep. Aftyn Behn is renewing a push to toughen penalties when employees die on the job.

Her Workers’ Right to Live Act would require employers found negligent in a workplace death to pay at least $250,000 per death into a Worker Protection Fund and repay three years of state incentives.

The bill would also lift the state’s cap on death benefits, require workplace deaths to be reported within 24 hours, and mandate a state investigation within five business days.

AES is contesting TOSHA’s record $3.1 million fine, and Behn acknowledged her bill wouldn’t apply retroactively to the AES families.

About 120 people got sick at the Walmart distribution center in Lebanon between Thursday night and Friday morning, and roughly 30 were hospitalized, according to the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency.

Those hospitalized were treated for nausea and vomiting, and officials suspect food poisoning but haven’t confirmed a cause.

As of Sunday, no particular food or source had been publicly identified, and local officials hadn’t released additional details.

In 2024, 12 people were sickened at the same facility after an unknown powder spilled inside two semi-trailers, though no hazardous materials were found.

Article Icon 1Heupel Calls Inge’s Recovery ‘a Miracle’

Tennessee Vols' football coach Josh Heupel said linebackers coach William Inge’s recovery from a life-threatening illness has been “a true miracle,” sharing the update after Saturday’s 24-17 win at Arkansas.

Heupel said Inge had been fighting for his life and that anybody who has seen his turnaround “can attest to the power of prayer.”

Inge is expected to leave UT Medical Center in the middle of this week and begin rehab, and Heupel thanked the fans, university, and football family who have been praying for him.

Inge has missed four games since being hospitalized in mid-September, and his linebackers wore “Inge Built” shirts during Vol Walk in his honor.
