Georgia has set Stacey Humphreys' execution for Sept. 16 at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

A jury convicted Humphreys, 53, of malice murder in the 2003 killings of real estate agents Cyndi Williams, 33, and Lori Brown, 21, at a Powder Springs model home. Humphreys fled Georgia and was arrested in Wisconsin following a police chase.

Humphreys’ December 2025 execution was halted after his attorneys challenged two parole board members’ participation in his clemency hearing, citing conflict of interest concerns.

A U.S. Supreme Court petition is pending. If the execution proceeds, Humphreys would become the 55th person put to death by lethal injection in Georgia and the state’s first execution since March 2024.

Walmart will build a $1.3 billion automated fulfillment center in Carnesville, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Thursday.

The 1.5 million-square-foot facility will go up at the Franklin 85 Logistics Center and is expected to employ 1,000 people. Construction is set to begin later this year.

Kemp announced the project from Lima, Peru, during an economic development mission in South America. He said the facility will give rural residents more opportunities to work locally.

Walmart employs more than 65,000 people across Georgia, where the company runs 209 stores and Sam’s Club locations as well as 11 supply chain facilities.

Macon's Ocmulgee Heritage Trail now runs more than 13 miles after a new 1,500-foot section opened at Amerson River Park.

The extension passes through the Jay Hall North River access area and connects to the James Hyde Porter Overlook. A new paved parking lot was also constructed.

The expansion is part of a broader effort to link Amerson River Park with downtown Macon and Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller said.

The full, decades-long project is expected to be completed by 2030.
