Dolly Parton, the East Tennessee farmer's daughter who became one of the most beloved figures in American music, has died at 80, her family announced Tuesday.

Parton died peacefully in Nashville after a brief battle with cancer. Her nephew Bryan Seaver delivered the news of her death with a video message she had asked him to record years earlier.

Born in 1946 in a one-room Locust Ridge cabin and raised in a large, poor family in the Smoky Mountains, Parton rose from The Cas Walker Show to global stardom. She founded Dollywood and gave millions of books to children through her Imagination Library.

Over her six-decade career, Dolly won 11 Grammys and an Emmy, received an honorary Oscar and the National Medal of the Arts, was a Kennedy Center Honoree, and was inducted into both the Country Music and Rock and Roll halls of fame.

Gov. Bill Lee said that Tennessee has been forever "enhanced" by Parton and "will never be quite the same without Dolly." Sen. Marsha Blackburn stated, "Dolly, we will always love you.”

Here's one of our favorites from Dolly. Enjoy!

Article Icon 1Beef Import Plan Splits Cattle Country

The Trump administration's plan to allow 660 million pounds of tariff-free beef into the U.S. aims to ease grocery prices that have climbed to record highs this year, but some Tennessee farmers have concerns.

The plan permits up to 300,000 metric tons of ground beef over 90 days, with a commitment that it must sell at 25% below current market prices.

But East Tennessee cattle producers worry the influx of cheaper imported beef could undercut the strong prices they finally command after years of thin margins.

The National Cattlemen's Beef Association said it was disappointed, warning that below-market beef won't rebuild a U.S. herd already sitting at its smallest since the 1950s, driven down by drought and high feed costs.

The Memphis-area mansion belonging to former Grizzlies star Ja Morant has sold for $3.2 million, county records show, months after it first hit the market in April.

The nearly 14,000-square-foot home in Eads, an affluent, unincorporated pocket of Shelby County, features seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and a backyard basketball court with Morant's logo at center court.

Morant bought the property in 2022 from former teammate Kyle Anderson for $3.05 million, just after signing a nearly $200 million contract with the Grizzlies.

The sale follows a major career turn: Memphis traded the two-time All-Star to the Portland Trail Blazers in June.
