Jesse Wegman spent a decade on the New York Times Editorial Board before coming to the Brennan Center as a Senior Fellow earlier this year. His new venture is a newsletter about the Supreme Court that he plans on publishing twice a month (yes, I’ve warned him that good intentions of writing once or twice a month have a habit of growing into daily and then twice daily in this era!) Major Questions with Jesse Wegman launches today, and it’s free to subscribe. Our conversation today was grounded in the practicalities of the need for Supreme Court reform, some of the leading proposals, and the role each of us can play. I especially appreciated Jesse’s reminder that this is a democracy, based on the consent of the governed, and although that can be prickly when it comes to a Supreme Court that we can’t simply vote out in the next election, we do have the ability to reform a Court that has lost the public’s confidence.
