Good Morning! On this day in 1921, the U.S. Navy blimp known as C-7 lifted off from Norfolk for the first time. The ship made several flights, including a round-trip to Washington, D.C.

Last week, we asked you for examples of commonly mispronounced place names in Virginia. Our state is large and diverse with a rich heritage, so it isn't surprising many places are difficult to pronounce.

The most commonly mentioned name was Buchanan County, which should be said "Buck-cannon." Botetourt County, named for a Colonial-era governor, should be "Bot-te-tot" with a silent "r." Many readers pointed out Native American names that are often mispronounced.

Wanted Coach Still Missing

State police searched through the weekend for Travis Turner, the Union High School head football coach who has been missing for 10 days.

Turner is being sought on five counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor, with other charges possible. Police were on their way to his home in Appalachia in Wise County when they learned he had slipped away.

"The last known contact the family had with Travis occurred on or about Thursday, November 20, after he left his residence to walk in the woods with a firearm," a statement from his family said. "He is believed to have entered a heavily wooded and mountainous area."

In his absence, the undefeated Union High Bears football team scored a 21-14 win to reach the Class 2 state semifinals. The team faces undefeated Glenvar on Saturday.

Energy Prices Set to Rise

The Virginia State Corporation Commission agreed to allow Dominion Energy to increase electricity prices by $11 per month, beginning in 2026. The proliferation of power-hungry data centers is a significant contributor to the increase.

The board had earlier rejected a request from Appalachian Power Company (APCo) to build a $168 million battery facility because it was deemed too expensive per megawatt-hour. APCo customers' bills are set to increase next year to fund projects to comply with the Virginia Clean Economy Act.

Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger said she will attempt to bring Virginia back into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), which could lead to higher prices for utility users. Gov. Glenn Youngkin pulled the Commonwealth out of RGGI, and the issue has been in the courts since last year.

Spanberger made energy prices a focal point of her successful campaign, promising to reduce energy bills and help save customers money.

Affordable Places to Retire in Virginia

Virginia residents looking for an affordable place to retire don't have far to go. WorldAtlas picked six wallet-friendly towns across the Commonwealth for retirees.

Looking to live on the water? Colonial Beach is a small town known as the "Playground on the Potomac." In the central part of the state, Farmville is home to Longwood University and the High Bridge Trail State Park.

The Eastern Shore also offers options. WorldAtlas listed both Onancock and Chincoteague, active small towns with decently priced housing.

In western Virginia, Abingdon and Bridgewater, along the I-81 corridor, made the list, boasting easy access to mountains and natural areas.
