The two mistakes with hiring an “integrator”

This one might get me in some trouble, but it needs to be said…

Hi entrepreneur,   The idea that you can make one magical unicorn hire that will do all the dirty work for you while you just spread your vision all over the place…   Is a laughable, dangerous lie.   Now, don't get me wrong…   I understand why entrepreneurs want to believe this because I've wanted to believe this and more than once I've attempted to hire an "integrator."   But other than co-founder relationships where one founder gravitates more towards operating the company, this role is one that I've seen crash and burn in more entrepreneurial companies than any other role, and here's why…   If you hire an "operator" before you build a scalable operating system, then one of two things are going to happen:   Scenario 1: The operator will attempt to create their own operating system based on what they believe the company does, which invariably differs from the way you actually do it.
