Joyce Vance Mar 1   READ IN APP   Instead of our usual Friday night “Five Questions With” column, which will run tomorrow (with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass discussing how Mayors are handling the Trump administration), tonight, it’s all about our new puppy. As many of you know, we lost our beloved Boxer Miss Fig last fall, and our German Shepherd, Bella, has been really sad ever since. So we decided to get her a puppy. Today was the day! This was the puppy hand off. No name yet, but isn’t she adorable? Bob has had this happy smile on his face all day. She was a little bit scared and nervous at first. But she got over that fast and now, she owns us. We’re excited about getting her home and introducing her to Bella, the cats, and the chickens. Today has been the reminder I needed that although we have a tough fight ahead of us to hold onto democracy, we have to continue living our lives with as much joy as possible, too. That’s been an elusive concept for me with so much happening and so many people’s lives turned upside down. We know there is more to come. So, yes we have work to do. We must help others who are directly impacted by what’s going on. But try to seize a little happiness for yourself too—a great way to remember why democracy matters so much.
