King Tides Swamp South Florida Streets

A coastal flood advisory covers Miami-Dade and Broward through Monday as king tides and swells from a New England nor'easter swamp low-lying South Florida neighborhoods. Waves are running 2 to 4 feet above normal, and the highest tides of the cycle will arrive today.

Sunday's high tide brought the highest flooding at Broward's Port Everglades gauge since it was installed in 2018, topping Hurricane Nicole in 2022. Fort Lauderdale police closed 2 miles of A1A.

A separate advisory covered Northeast Florida beaches during Sunday morning's high tide, and rip current risk is high in both regions.

DeBary Native to Pilot Crew-13 Launch

A DeBary native will pilot the next crew to the International Space Station, with NASA's SpaceX Crew-13 targeting liftoff on Thursday from Cape Canaveral.

Launch is set for 11:10 a.m. from Space Launch Complex 40, with docking planned around 8 p.m.

NASA's Jessica Watkins will command the mission, with Luke Delaney as pilot and Canada's Joshua Kutryk and Russia's Sergey Teteryatnikov as mission specialists. The launch slipped from mid-September after crews found an oxidizer leak on the Dragon.

Delaney grew up about 50 miles away and used to watch shuttle launches. Returning to Florida is "definitely near and dear to my heart," he said. The crew will spend more than six months aboard the station.

Four Years after Ian, Marina Reopens

Legacy Harbour Marina is welcoming boaters back to downtown Fort Myers four years after Hurricane Ian wrecked it, reopening last week with 131 slips, taller pilings, and stronger breakwaters.

Construction began in 2025, and one boat stranded by Ian wasn't removed until that November. A grand opening is planned for October, with a restaurant due in December.

Ian remains Florida's costliest hurricane, with more than $109 billion in damage statewide. Some Southwest Florida homeowners are still fighting unfinished repairs and insurance disputes.
