"Five minutes each week that might change your life."
Isaac Newton spent more time trying to decode secret messages in the Bible than he did inventing calculus. And yet… he’s remembered as the world’s greatest genius.
Newton also:
• Gave himself brain damage from mercury exposure.
• Believed it was possible to turn things into gold.
• Stuck a needle in his eye—just to study vision.
By any modern standards, the man was out of his mind.
But that mind also changed the world.
As a rule, history rarely remembers the balanced or the cautious. It remembers the ones who were willing to go so far that, in the moment, they looked unhinged.
That doesn’t just apply to Newton.
It’s the entrepreneur quitting a safe job to chase an idea no one else believes in.
It’s the artist putting out work that everyone mocks before it’s later called visionary.
It’s anyone bold enough to risk being mistaken for crazy.
The line between brilliance and madness is thin.
And boldness lives right on top of it.
See you Monday,
Mark
P.S. You'll spend roughly 80,000 hours working in your lifetime. You can play those hours safe, or you can be the one who quits, chases the idea nobody believes in, and bets on yourself. 80,000 Hours is a non-profit that helps you figure out what's actually worth that bet—without pretending you don't have rent to pay. And they've put everything they've learned over a decade into a free career guide. So far, 3,000 people have used it to actually make the leap.
