Report Reveals Trump's Security Ruse

President Trump secretly switched planes while leaving last month's NATO summit in Turkey, an elaborate ruse detailed in new reporting this week.

The president and several aides were driven across the tarmac in a catering truck to the plane's far door, then boarded a smaller, lookalike military jet.

Bipartisan Backlash Hits Flock Cameras

A nationwide backlash against Flock Safety's license plate cameras is becoming bipartisan, local officials say. More than 20 communities cut ties with the surveillance company in July alone, the most in any month on record.

The solar-powered cameras photograph every passing vehicle and log 20 billion plates a month, and Flock says they played a role in about 1 million investigations last year. But conservatives see government overreach, liberals see tracking of immigrants and protesters, and both are showing up at city halls to fight the cameras.

Frustration has boiled over into vandalism. Cameras have been shot, sawed down, beaten with a baseball bat, and splattered with paint, and more than 20,000 people have registered for a national week of protests later this month.

Lawsuits arguing the tracking violates the Fourth Amendment are moving through courts in several states, and Republican lawmakers have proposed barring federal funding for the technology.

Robocalls Reach Highest Level in a Year

Robocalls are spiking nationwide, with Americans fielding more spam calls in July than in any month in the past year, according to call-screening service YouMail.

The tally topped 4.3 billion calls in a single month, and the most common was a fake "pre-approved" loan offer promising big money at low payments. YouMail calls it illegal telemarketing at scale and likely a scam.

Numbers with Houston's 346 area code saw the sharpest jump, up 19% in one month, followed by codes covering Atlanta and Albany in Georgia, and much of Indiana and Tennessee. But no region was spared.

A bill cracking down on overseas robocalls recently passed the Senate. Until then, experts say: Don't pick up. Let unknown numbers go to voicemail, and always call your bank back on the number printed on your card, not the one that called you.
