PUCO Sets Data Energy Rules

Ohio regulators ordered AEP Ohio to buy electricity separately for data centers returning to default service, a safeguard intended to keep sudden surges in demand from driving up bills for households and other businesses.

Those data centers must give AEP Ohio 180 days' notice before returning to its Standard Service Offer. The utility would then secure their power through stand-alone auctions or spot-market purchases.

Data center policy is also emerging as an issue in the 2026 governor's race. Republican Vivek Ramaswamy and Democrat Amy Acton have proposed different conditions for new projects, while Gov. Mike DeWine paused consideration of new tax exemptions in May after state and local incentives cost about $2 billion in 2025.

Canton Kicks Off Football Season

Last night’s Hall of Fame Game in Canton between the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals officially kicked off the NFL preseason, with Carolina winning 33-30 on a touchdown as time expired.

Rookie quarterbacks Haynes King and Carson Beck impressed in their professional debuts. King completed 21 of 34 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns before scoring the winner on a 5-yard run, while Beck went 15 of 19 for 188 yards and a touchdown.

Hall of Fame weekend continues tomorrow with its centerpiece event, as five NFL legends will enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Drew Brees, Roger Craig, Larry Fitzgerald, Luke Kuechly, and Adam Vinatieri make up the 2026 class. The noon ceremony at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium will feature speeches and the unveiling of the inductees' busts.

Englewood Produces Ohio's First Printed Home

Ohio's first 3D-printed home is taking shape in Englewood, where specialty concrete machinery is being used to construct a three-bedroom, 2 1/2-bath residence with an attached garage.

Englewood officials shared video and photos as the printing progressed. The city said the goal of the project is to build durable, energy-efficient homes in “just days.”

Project organizers say the method could lower construction costs and make new housing more accessible across the Miami Valley. Although the technology is new to the region, entire 3D-printed communities have already been developed in Texas.
