Trump Is In A Period Of Profound Political Decline, Democrats Are Fielding Strong Candidates Across The Country (New Video, Written Analysis)The House rebuked Trump on both Iran and Ukraine yesterday. It was another day of remarkable losses for our ailing, addled, failure of a leader......
Greetings everyone. The proud, plucky patriots of this remarkable community gathered last night for our regular Wednesday look at our great battle against MAGA and for freedom and democracy. As they usually are it was a lively affair, full of passionate chat and terrific questions. A video recording and rough transcript are above. But before we get into the details of my talk let us marvel at this remarkable sight being seen throughout the Republican political universe this morning…. Here is some of what we talked about last night: Trump Is In A Period Of Profound Political Decline. The Opposition Is Getting Stronger, Bigger, and More Ambitious - Little cracks have become big cracks my friends. Between the courts and Congress in recent weeks Trump has lost on the Kennedy Center, his ballroom, his slush fund, his tariffs, and now on his approach to the wars in Ukraine and Iran. The Ukrainians and Iranians are now winning their wars against Putin and his regime, and refusing to lose. He had to retreat from Minnesota, and fire Bovino and Noem. His close ally Orban was routed in Hungary. He was humiliated in China, yielding to a stronger and more capable leader - as he so often does, the coward that he is. His “Board of Peace” has become a global joke. Inflation is not bending the knee and the Federal Reserve is now more likely to raise interest rates than to cut them. Consumer sentiment is at at a 65 year low. His polling continues to drop. Democrats continue to see heightened performance in elections across the country. His candidate lost in the primary for Iowa governor on Tuesday night, a potentially deeply consequential loss. His successful efforts to defeat, and not re-elect, two well-regarded, influential Senate Republicans has permanently, and potentially dangerously, damaged his standing on the Hill. His new picks for ODNI and AG are tone deaf, impulsive, self-indulgent mistakes, new, fresh signs of his ebbing powers, increasingly paranoia, and narrowing circle. He keeps failing asleep at events he is hosting, and his medical reports have become something out of Monty Python. Here’s the homepage of the New York Times this morning: Here’s a round up of headlines about the House voting to advance The Ukraine Support Act, HR 2913, last night: Here’s the Kyiv Independent’s coverage of this vote, something we’ve been working on here for weeks:
The House will take a final vote on HR 2913 today. Please make your calls people! Here are our working recommendations for things to call your Senators and Reps about today:
Friends, little cracks have become bigger cracks, much bigger cracks, and we must keep working as hard as we can - for they are yet not big enough. We have more work to do…… We Have A Strong Team Fielded In The Battlegrounds - I reflected last night on the many interviews I’ve done in recent months with our candidates running in those red states and red districts we’re working to flip this year. I have been impressed with the candidates we’ve met together - they fit their states and districts, have strong track records of electoral success, seem confident about their arguments and in touch with their voters, and have their heads down and doing the work that is required to win. Recruiting and supporting strong candidates is a central reason we’ve been performing so well in local and special elections all across the country this cycle. Given who we’ve met that trend has continued in our battleground Senate and House races - strong people are stepping up all over the county in a time of great challenge for their country. It is part of what makes this cycle one of great opportunity for us. While we have a long way to go today the national political landscape suggests this is going to be a wave year, similar to or even better than 2018. Trump’s approval rating today is much lower than were it was at this point in 2018: The generic ballot is better today for us than it was at this point in 2018: Here’s a selection of recent Senate polling. It’s clear the Senate is in play, my friends, and that we have a shot: Finally, I reflected on how in surveying the national landscape it is clear a new Democratic Party is being born, a post-Clinton/Obama/Pelosi/Biden party. One that has ministers like Sarah Trone Garriot, navy pilots like Rebecca Bennett, Grammy-winning artists like Bobby Pulido, a child of immigrants like Xavier Becerra, paralympians like Josh Turek, anti-corruption warriors like Paige Cognetti, seminarians like James Talarico, oyster fisherman like Graham Platner, mayors and prosecutors like Keisha Lance Bottoms, young firebrands like Anderson Clayton, firefighters like Bob Brooks, Marines like Jo Mendoza, inspiring orators like Jon Ossoff, doctors like Amy Acton, Tribal leaders like Jonathan Nez and the “fish, family, and freedom” of Mary Peltola. This cycle it feels like we are moving confidently forward, with leaders who look like the America of tomorrow not yesterday, who come from all walks of life and from all parts of America. Doers, leaders, inspiring patriots all. I strongly encourage you to help people in your networks meet these impressive candidates who’ve had the courage to run and fight for all of this cycle. Share links to our Hopium discussions through the Podcast tab on our site and through our channels on YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify too. We need to be lifting these democracy warriors up, making them famous across the country, and do everything we can to help them win….. Finally, I announced last night that we’ve launched a drive to bring in 500 new paid subscribers to Hopium by July 4th. The money we raise will be used to create capacity to report on the elections in greater detail, and make our site easier to use. To encourage folks to sign up, and to encourage others in your networks to become part of Hopium, we are offering 10% off an annual $50 Hopium subscription through Independence Day.
