Habit #6: Join a community

Community is vastly more important than you realize.

“Networking” is kind of the gross version of building valuable connections. “Community” is the good version of building valuable connections.

Want to become a better marketer? Simple, hang around smart marketers.

They say that you're the average of the 5 closest people around you — so get close to the smartest minds in marketing and you're guaranteed to level up.

Learn through osmosis. Get feedback on what you're working on.

Brainstorm challenges and get your questions answered. It's your support group.

Personally, this is why I built the Swipe Files Community.

Look, to each their own. But personally, I think Slack and Facebook groups are absolutely terrible mediums for communities. Slack is too noisy and the threading makes it near impossible to have a conversation. Facebook groups are impersonal, and, well... it's Facebook.

That's why I chose Circle as my community platform of choice. It's a truly revolutionary community experience that facilitates asynchronous interaction (so you never miss out) and has just enough organization to help you stay on top of things (so you don't have to filter through all the noise).

But no matter which community you're a part of or what platform it's on, as long as you feel connected and have a place to get help, that's all that matters.

There’s also a great community on Twitter. If you follow #MarketingTwitter you can find lots of people to follow, interact with, and get to know.

Cheers,
Corey
