On Sunday, my friend Matthew Miller, who was the spokesperson at DOJ during much of the Obama Administration, tweeted this: “It has been 10 days since Hegseth and Caine last briefed on Iran. No CENTCOM briefing since 3/10, and no Pentagon daily press briefing at all. We learn more of what the U.S. military has been doing from bystander videos than DoD. Historic lack of transparency and accountability.” Matt has the gravitas to make a comment like that with authority. During the Biden administration, he served as special advisor to the National Security Council before becoming the Spokesman for the State Department, the nation’s chief voice on U.S. foreign policy. So when he pointed out what the Department of Defense wasn’t doing, I wanted to understand more about its significance and asked him to join us as our guest tonight for Five Questions. “Five Questions” is a periodic feature for paid subscribers, my way of thanking those who are able to support this work so that I can devote the necessary time and resources to it.
