A meteor streaked across the Southeast Texas sky Saturday afternoon, and a piece of it likely hit a Spring woman's home.

Reports of a fireball and sonic boom flooded social media shortly after 4:40 p.m. Later that evening, NASA confirmed it detected a meteor that became visible 49 miles above Stagecoach and broke up 29 miles above Bammel.

Seen as far away as DFW and Port Aransas, it was three feet in diameter, weighed roughly a ton, and was traveling at about 35,000 miles per hour.

Residents in the Houston area reported hearing a "long low rumble" that shook their homes. Sherrie James of Spring said she "heard a big boom" and later found a rock in an upstairs bedroom that had ripped a hole through her roof.

Firefighters who examined the rock concluded it was likely from the meteor reported in the area. "I'm very excited to get this, but a little scared," James said. "I'm definitely going to keep it."

Tesla and SpaceX plan to build a massive $20 billion chip manufacturing plant in Austin, Elon Musk announced on Saturday, describing the project as "the most epic chip building exercise in history by far."

Musk, the billionaire CEO of both companies, said his vision for the "Terafab" is to produce a terawatt of computing power every year, arguing current suppliers can't meet his companies' demand for advanced AI chips. "We either build the Terafab, or we don't have the chips, and we need the chips, so we build the Terafab," he said.

Musk estimated that 20% of the facility's output would power terrestrial applications, such as Tesla's robotaxi service and Optimus humanoid robots, while the rest would be used to build space-based data centers.

Some critics have questioned the feasibility of Musk's ambitions, pointing to his inexperience in chip manufacturing and the unrealized goals of some of his previous projects.

Zinger, the Houston rodeo's 2026 Grand Champion Junior Market Steer, sold for $1.5 million during an auction on Saturday, shattering the previous record of $1 million set in 2022 and tied in 2024.

The steer, named for the Hostess devil's food cake snacks, was shown by 15-year-old Mason Grady of Grandview and purchased by Trinity River Land & Cattle Co. "You can have a lot of fourth-and-ones in your career, but you can only have one of these," said Grady, a running back who hopes to play for Texas A&M.

The $750,000 paid for the Reserve Grand Champion, a Charolais steer named Ryan, was also a record. It was the third time 18-year-old Jett Hale of Miami, Texas, had shown the second-place steer.

Since its inception in 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has contributed over $660 million to youth and education programs, including a record $30 million this year.
