Hardy Merriman On The Fight For Democracy And Freedom, Here And EverywhereOn this day after No Kings 3 enjoy this inspiring discussion about the global battle for democracy with a leading warrior in the fightGreetings all. On this day after No Kings 3 I’m sending along a new conversation with someone whom I hope will become a familiar face in our community - Hardy Merriman. Here is how Hardy introduces himself:
Last year rather than focusing on civil resistance and democratic resilience abroad, as he has done for several decades, Hardy stepped down from his perch and has redirected his energies towards helping our great country get prevail against the unprecedented threat to our own democracy. In this discussion Hardy shares some of what he’s learned in his many battles abroad, and provides wise counsel to our work in building a more muscular pro-democracy movement here in America. This is one of the more important conversations I’ve hosted in recent months, and I encourage folks to find the time to watch or listen in the coming days. As you will hear me say in this discussion I think it is critical that our movement become far more conscious about both learning from those who’ve battled autocracy aboard and in creating deeper networks of cooperation with democratic nations and pro-democracy movements around the world. For together, our ultimate goal is not just to remove MAGA from power here in the US, it is, over the next ten years, to ensure there is a new birth of freedom here and everywhere in the world. I haven’t had time today to add a full, edited transcript but will be doing so this week (I know some of you prefer reading rather than watching or listening). This uplifting conversation is a perfect day-after-No Kings watch or listen, and is the third in a series of conversations about strengthening our pro-democracy movement we’ve had in recent weeks. You can find the first two here: And be sure to see the inspiring photos submitted by Hopium community members from across the US and around the world I published this morning: Thanks again to all of you who worked to make yesterday perhaps the largest day of mass protest in American history, and keep working hard all.
