| Elections Center Warrant Unsealed The release of a search warrant on Tuesday gave more details about the FBI's criminal investigation into Fulton County's handling of the 2020 presidential election. An agent's affidavit in support of the Jan. 28 raid at the county's election center cited probable cause to believe federal election laws were violated. Investigators cited the county's past admission that there were some missing ballot images, duplicate ballot scans, inconsistencies in batch tally counts, and revised vote totals. The probe also focuses on whether any deficiencies were intentional, authorities said. The Fulton County Commission chair called the investigation one of "recycled rumors, lies, untruths, and unproven conspiracy theories." | 'Remarkable' Emergency Landing Detailed More details emerged about a small plane that made an emergency landing and struck several cars on a busy road around noon Monday in Gainesville. "The fact that they were able to land in the middle of hundreds of vehicles and only hit three of them—(and) no power lines—is very remarkable," Gainesville police Capt. Kevin Holbrook said, "The fact that no one was seriously injured or killed is just astonishing." The pilot, Thomas Rogers, flying with a student pilot, said the Hawker Beechcraft BE-36 lost engine power after takeoff from Gainesville, prompting him to glide the plane onto the road. Only minor injuries were sustained by Rogers, the student pilot, and a driver as the plane hit three cars and its fuel tank came loose and struck the back of an SUV but didn't explode. | Spring Training Opens Atlanta Braves pitchers and catchers reported to spring training Tuesday in North Port, Florida, marking the start of a new era under first-year manager Walt Weiss. The first full squad workout will take place Sunday, and the team's first spring game in the Grapefruit League will take place Feb. 21 against the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte, Florida. Weiss, previously a bench coach and special assistant for the team, takes over after longtime manager Brian Snitker stepped down after last season. Weiss inherits a roster featuring Ronald Acuna Jr., Chris Sale, and Spencer Strider. The team has also added several new players. Snitker guided the Braves to six NL East division titles and a 2021 World Series championship. A 76-86 record last season left the team in fourth place and out of the postseason. | |
