From the Founder's Desk:

Why I Want The Flyover Readers to Own The Flyover

When I decided to accept investors in The Flyover, one thing mattered to me more than anything: that our readers would have the chance to become our owners. If I had my druthers, every single investor in The Flyover would be a Flyover reader. That's why we've structured this offering with you in mind:

  • Bonus shares for all The Flyover readers who invest

Legally, the offering is open to any U.S. citizen. But my heart—and our strategy—are focused on keeping ownership in the hands of our readers. Right now, we're less than $84,000 away from hitting $4 million raised—80% full. Once we cross that mark and announce our final investment date, I expect the final 20% to be filled.

That's why I'm asking our readers one more time: will you consider investing in The Flyover today?

This is the final month to invest.

But some of our readers are asking: "How do I get a return on my investment?"

Here's why The Flyover is different:

  • Already profitable after just two years (most start-ups never are)

  • 80% gross margins and 24% net income (exceptional margins)

  • In the top 1% of media start-ups (proven strength)

How investors could realize returns:

  1. A Sale—Only to a partner who shares our values. (CNN or The New York Times need not apply.)

  2. Public Listing—Shares traded openly on an exchange.

  3. Profit Distributions (Dividends)—Because we're already profitable, this is possible.

Recap: Sale. Listing. Distributions.

My Closing Pitch

More than 2,600 Flyover readers have already joined us as investors. We're just $84,000 away from our next milestone—and once we hit it, we will announce our closing date. If you've been considering investing, now is the moment. Will you help us finish this round and together make The Flyover a news company truly owned by its readers.

Will you be one of the final investors who helps us keep The Flyover fully reader-owned?

Article Icon 1UNC System Syllabi Deemed Public Records

The University of North Carolina System has implemented a new policy designating all course syllabi as public records under North Carolina law, effective Jan. 15. The change aims to boost transparency amid declining public trust in higher education.

Public university campuses must establish searchable public databases in time for the start of the 2026-27 academic year.

UNC System President Peter Hans finalized the regulation on Dec. 19, requiring instructors to post syllabi—including course objectives, grading details, the impact of attendance and participation, required materials, and a disclaimer on diverse perspectives—no later than one week before classes begin.

Public records requests for syllabi have surged recently, including from conservative groups targeting topics like diversity, equity, and inclusion, prompting the system-wide standard after inconsistent campus responses.

Authorities busted one of the largest organized cockfighting rings ever discovered in Forsyth County on Jan. 14 after the Sheriff's Office Animal Services Division responded to an animal welfare check at a Baux Mountain Road residence in Winston-Salem.

Investigators found more than 400 roosters in cages on the 5-acre property and obtained a search warrant. They uncovered cockfighting paraphernalia, approximately one kilogram of cocaine, several firearms, and cash.

Six people, including one juvenile, now face charges. All are accused of felony cockfighting offenses.

The lead suspect, 29-year-old Edward Thomas Marin, also faces charges of drug trafficking, drug possession, possession of a firearm by a felon, and other offenses. He is being held on a $260,000 secured bond.

Article Icon 1Cost of Helene-Related I-40 Repairs Jumps

The cost to repair a section of I-40 in North Carolina's Pigeon River Gorge damaged by Hurricane Helene has risen to nearly $2 billion, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Initial estimates placed the cost of repairs at $1.1 billion, but new subsurface data and detailed on-site assessments with contractors have driven the figure up by about $900 million. The Federal Highway Administration will reimburse the full cost.

The increase stems primarily from the need for deeper groundwork, though the project scope and timeline remain unchanged. All lanes are still expected to reopen by late 2028.

Currently, traffic is limited to one lane in each direction through the work zone in Haywood County, which officials say is stifling the recovery of the tourism sector.
