New State Measures Aim at Storm Recovery

Tennessee’s storm-related death toll rose to 10 after a historic ice storm, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency confirmed on Wednesday, including a Davidson County fatality police believe involved carbon monoxide poisoning.

Power outages statewide peaked at 315,533 during severe winter weather Sunday and fell to 126,299 by Wednesday as utility crews continued round-the-clock restoration efforts.

Gov. Bill Lee has signed Executive Order 111 to expand the Department of Transportation's authority to clear local roads, helping linemen reach damaged infrastructure faster.

The expanded powers last through March 7 and follow a previous state of emergency declaration.

The state also launched a hotline (1-844-483-6648) to connect residents with resources and assistance.

Contractors Indicted for Blocking ICE

A federal grand jury indicted two Tennessee contractors accused of using a truck to physically block ICE agents during a raid near Knoxville earlier this month.

The two men allegedly conspired to conceal six undocumented individuals at a construction site, with one reportedly ramming a federal vehicle and injuring officers. Authorities say the men acted knowingly for personal gain.

The case comes amid heightened federal immigration enforcement across the region.

Therapy Dog Becomes Hospital Hero

A French bulldog named Minnie Pearl has become a beloved fixture at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, where she makes weekly rounds, cheering up staff and patients.

Hospital CEO Tom Ozburn first brought the pup, named after the late Grand Ole Opry star, as a morale booster for employees.

Now, departments clamor for a visit from Minnie, who’s become the unofficial mascot across the hospital’s five campuses.
