Good Morning! On this day in 1933, John Lamb, the jazz double bassist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, was born in Vero Beach. Lamb left high school to join the U.S. Air Force as a musician for the military band.

Florida Ranks Best for Snowbirds

Financebuzz identified the best cities in the U.S. for snowbirds, evaluating each town on various factors, including affordability. All five top cities are in Florida, with The Villages ranking the highest.

Sebastian (No. 3), Homosassa Springs (No. 4), and Naples (No. 5) all scored high for average temperatures, recreational activities, and livability. Homosassa Springs ranked particularly well for having one of the nation's lowest crime rates.

Sunshine State Dominates Retirement List

Five Florida cities are listed among the 13 best Southern cities to retire with a rent of less than $1,600 a month. According to a recent study, the average Social Security check is now at $2,008.31.

Jacksonville ranked first among the 13 cities, with a dependable public transportation system that helps save money on gas and car maintenance. The city also boasts a longer shoreline than any other town in the country and offers a median monthly rent of $1,564.

Punta Gorda (No. 4) is a popular retirement spot, with over 52% of the city's population aged 65 or older. The median monthly rent is $1,520.

Ormond Beach (No. 5) and Panama City Beach (No. 6) both offer median monthly rent just above $1,500 a month. Sebastian (No. 13), located along the Treasure Coast, offers the lowest median monthly rent at $1,409.
