Your Saturday Stoic Review — Week of August 4 - 10
With the upcoming release of Wisdom Takes Work—the fourth and final book of the Stoic Virtues Series—the team at Daily Stoic wanted to do something special, something we've never done before…
Education takes time. It takes work. It takes patience. It takes the right teachers, living and dead. But the rewards are worth it. And the sooner you start looking for those "door openers," the better.
In a recent video on theDaily Stoic YouTube channel, Ryan Holiday shares Stoic lessons he's learned from one of his favorite pastimes: swimming.
"Even when you love the water, even when you swim all the time, even though you know it at some level, you almost never like getting in. Getting in is hard! Getting in takes some getting used to, but you're almost always glad that you did. It reminds me of exactly what Musonius Rufus said: when you do something difficult, the labor passes quickly, but the good remains."
In a recent episode of The Daily Stoic Podcast, Ryan Holiday speaks with developmental psychologist Dr. Aliza Pressman on reframing everyday frustrations, why she is worried for this generation of parents, and using Stoicism to let your kids be themselves:
"You're not planting a seed and raising whatever flower you've decided. That flower is going to come out how they're coming out. So, are you going to provide the environment for that particular human to thrive?"
