Morning all. The terrible, terrible Republican bill appears ready to pass this morning. At 5am Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries took to the floor of the House to make his final speech against the bill, and he is still going. You can watch live on YouTube here.  NBC News correspondent Ryan Nobles just posed this about what Leader Jeffries and the House Dems are doing this morning:
As the final vote will likely take place later this morning or in the early afternoon, there is time this morning to keep making your calls, have your voice heard, weigh in at this critical time for the country. If you live in one of these 29 House districts you need to call today, call tomorrow and start working with others in your district to make their lives miserable and vote them out of office next year. These f-ckers need to hear from you, every day.
As I said to all of you in my video last night (above) this has been a heavy week for all of us. The Republican Party of the United States of America has embraced an inhumane, barbaric politics that encourages torture, is killing millions of the poorest people in the world, is building concentration camps on our soil and will now do clear, purposeful harm to tens of millions, even hundreds of millions, of people here in America. They are making America, this great country, poorer, weaker, less safe, less free and a global pariah. They are strengthening the dark hands of China and Russia, and other autocrats around the world. They are stealing the future of our kids and our grandkids. In what is the most insulting betrayal of tomorrow’s Independence Day holiday one can imagine they have abandoned our Constitutional order and after 250 years of We The People are determined to make Kings and oligarchs great again on this land……. The ugliness of it all is overwhelming, but it can also be the fuel that drives us to keep fighting. While I am proud of everything this community has done together in the past 2+ years, I get up this morning determined to find ways that we can do more, make an even bigger difference. For part of the lesson of recent days is while our movement is stronger, more capable, bigger than it was a few months ago - and public opinion has turned against Trump and the Rs - it is still not where we need it to be. We must, together, find a higher gear in the days ahead and challenge the mad and venal man running our country more effectively. We have elections in four months and again in sixteen months, and we need to pour everything we have into winning this elections, having them become clear statements of righteous, patriotic defiance of this terrible politics of sabotage, plunder and betrayal. But we also must do more in the day to day, the 24/7/365 scrum that is our national discourse. We need to do more than make him unpopular. We need to make him unacceptable.

It is whether we do, the American people. And by that measure this bill is a loser, a stone cold loser for this great country and all of us. It’s been an honor of a lifetime to be in this fight with all of you. Let’s make our calls this morning, speak loudly when our electeds need to hear from us. And let’s use this weekend, one that celebrates our rejection of tyranny and separation from a mad king, to refuel our tank for the coming battles ahead. 1 - Stop The Reconciliation Bill - Job One for us this summer remains fighting Trump’s ruinous and deeply unpopular economic agenda. We need to keep calling every day and demand our leaders vote down the reconciliation bill and roll back Trump’s terrible tariffs. This is the big, definitional battle of the summer and we need keep working it every day. Those of you in states with Republican Senators and Representatives have a particularly important role to play now. Here’s a possible script to use to fight the reconciliation bill and tariffs. Use whatever works for you:
2 - Get The Military Off Our Streets, Fight Trump’s Inhumane Immigration Escalation - Contact your Rep and Senators to demand they fight Trump’s illegal use of the National Guard and Marines in California. Encourage Democrats at all levels of government to a stand with Governor Newsom and the California - for Trump is not just attacking California, he is attacking the rights and freedoms of all of us. See my recent interviews with Joe Garcia, Leon Krauze and Senator Chris Van Hollen for more. In the coming days I want to work with all of you to do something more explicit about demanding the end of masked, plain clothes “police” snatching people here in America without warrants.
3 - Own The Fourth, The Flag And Patriotism - To keep our momentum going after the remarkable No Kings events I encourage you to explore ways of Owning The Fourth and make our Independence Day an ugly one for our mad wannabe king. Inspired by the tactics of our Founders, learn about how Hopium members are advancing “resolutions of condemnation” in their communities across the country and consider bringing this initiative to your state, country or city/town. Our resolutions passed in New Mexico last week, and we now have 38 resolutions moving in 13 states - let’s keep the mo’ going everyone!
4 -Volunteer To Help Your State and/or Local Democratic Parties Stand Up Voter Registration Efforts - In the presentation he made to our community recently Tom Bonier made a persuasive case that Democrats must once again make partisan voter registration a national priority. State and local Democratic Parties are in the planning stages to take this on. Members of our community should consider contacting their state and local parties and offer to help stand up these vital efforts in the coming months. For more on the need to make partisan voter registration great again see my recent interview with Jane Kleeb, Nebraska Democratic Party Chair, DNC Vice Chair and President of the Association of Democratic State Committees. On Monday the DNC, the DSCC, the DCCC, the DGA and the ASDC announced a major new “Organizing Summer” project. Learn more about it here. 5 - Stand Up For Science - Sign on to the critically important Bethesda Declaration and watch my interview with Stand Up For Science’s Executive Director Colette Delawalla.
