Happy Father's Day to everyone! In case you didn't know, we also send out a daily email (and daily podcast) about parenting over at The Daily Dad. And in honor of the holiday, we wanted to share with you this exciting new thing we're doing as a community there (more info below).
When we discuss the Stoics, we tend to focus mostly on who they were as leaders, philosophers, and teachers. But the Stoics were more than just these public figures. Marcus Aurelius, we'd do well to remember, raised multiple children while serving as emperor. And for all of Cato's grand political stands to save the Republic, perhaps his greatest accomplishment was the example he set as a father to his daughter Porcia—whose defiance and bravery rivaled, and maybe even exceeded, her father's.
Yes, just like many of us, the Stoics were also parents. And, just like many of us do as parents, we can imagine that they worried about their kids, played games with their kids, tried to support and encourage and be a good role model to their kids. We can imagine this because this is what parents have always done and will always do. Parenting, as we write in The Daily Dad book, is one of those rare universal experiences that links us across time, space, and culture in an unbroken chain stretching back thousands of years.
But just because parenting is this experience we all share, it doesn't mean everyone's experience of being a parent is the same.
Parenthood can humble you fast. It's like waking up to a world you suddenly don't control. Learning how to navigate that world takes time—especially if you want to learn how to navigate it with patience, presence, and love.
In fact, that was the whole idea behind The Daily Dad in the first place: to make centuries of hard-won wisdom usable in the chaos of modern family life.
But no single voice, or book, or email, has all the answers.
That's why we wanted to create a society for parents to come together and share real-world parenting stories and their own priceless wisdom. A community for parents who want to commit to this daily practice of being a parent—one built on presence, patience, example, and love—and become the kind of person you want your kids to look up to.
So we can get better, together. So we can help each other through this, together.
The Daily Dad Society is a private, practical community where parents trade real stories, proven strategies, and daily accountability. So you can become the model your kids deserve.
As a Daily Dad Society member, you'll gain access to the tools, community, and more that you need to become the best parent you can be, such as:
Personal Parenting Stories – One extra email per month, featuring timeless parenting stories, real-life lessons, and exclusive Q&A insights from the Holidays.
Monthly Live Q&A with Ryan Holiday – Join live, ask questions, and hear Ryan discuss parenting through the lens of philosophy, history, and hard-won experience.
Private Daily Dad Forum – A members-only space to talk about parenting, ask questions, share wins and struggles.
Monthly Dad Intentions – Actionable prompts to help you show up more intentionally: wake-up routines, screen-free evenings, deeper time with your kids.
Quarterly Book Club – One parenting-focused book every three months, discussed live with Ryan and the community.
I remember around when my first son turned one (hey, it's Ryan here), I needed a group like this. In fact, it's something I realized that I still need today…
But we need your help to build this community into something special.
If you join from now until June 30, you will be an official "Founding Member" of the Daily Dad Society—with a special gift to show that (learn more here).
