Tonight at 5:15 ET/4:15 CT, I’m joined by former DOJ prosecutor Elie Honig for a Substack Live discussion to explore democracy, the DOJ, and our forthcoming books on these topics. Expect a lively conversation—Elie and I don’t always agree, which leads to interesting conversations where the back and forth can expose arguments on both sides of an issue to scrutiny and be very productive for people who like to think issues through and make up their own minds. But Elie and I don’t always agree on the most important issue—how essential the rule of law is to democracy. I’m really looking forward to this conversation. Elie’s new book is When You Come at the King, a phrase prosecutors use to express the importance of having an air tight case when they go after a key figure, even before Omar said it in the TV show The Wire. My book, which I’m currently in the middle of doing final edits on, is Giving Up Is Unforgivable: A Manual For Keeping A Democracy. Because we’re discussing similar issues from different perspectives, it seemed like a no-brainer for us to get together and discuss them with y’all. (Also, if I’m being completely truthful, I’m hoping that Elie, who has two other very successful books under his belt, will share his tips with me on completing the editing process!) If you have questions for us, please leave them in the comments. I hope you’ll join us tonight at 5:15 ET for Happy Hour at Civil Discourse. We’re in this together, Joyce You're currently a free subscriber to Civil Discourse with Joyce Vance . For the full experience, upgrade your subscription. |
