Four Days Out A Desperate And Rattled Trump Is Cancelling Rallies, Throwing DOJ At The Elections, And Getting His Ass Kicked All Across The Country315pm Today - Tom Bonier is dropping by for a deep dive into what we are seeing in the early vote - join us!
Morning all. Yes, this really happened yesterday: Cancelling rallies in critical battlegrounds in the final weekend of the election is…..um……really wild. As I was hitting send the White House announced the rallies are back on! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dude is closing with chaos, loads and loads of chaos…… Whatever happens now Trump never thought it would get to this. After all he escaped prison and retook the White House in 2024. He had conquered Venezuela and stolen their oil. He had looted the Treasury, stuffed his pockets, buried the Epstein files, and is building himself an Imperial enclave. He had launched a big war, a war that no one else had dared to wage, for he was mighty, an historic strongman, and he would be bring generations of glory to the Trump name. The stock market had boomed and he was successfully enriching his friends and cutting their taxes too. The titanic pay to play scheme he built would yield the Republicans unprecedented campaign cash, building a campaign fire wall that would ensure they keep the Senate no matter what happened in the House. He and his allies had successfully taken control of immensely powerful social and legacy media orgs, and successfully bullied and censored others. The right-wing noise machine supported by his Russian allies kept poisoning our discourse 24/7/365. Schumer and Jeffries were little people, he believed, not capable of mounting any kind of serious opposition. His quislings at the Fed would make sure the economy would be good. He would launch a huge end of election rally blitz that would re-awaken the faithful and lead them to victory once again. While things might get bumpy and spicy at the end of the day everything would be fine. He always found a way. The newly crowned Emperor of the Americas would once again slay his enemies and bring victory home to Natalie and MAGAland. The crowds would cheer, he would keep getting rich, and Todd Blanche would keep the legal lilliputians like Marc Elias, Norm Eisen, Katie Phang and those Dem AGs at bay. Everything would be fine. But everything is really not fine. Democrats saw heightened performance in special elections all over the country these past two years. We blew it out in the November elections last year. We saw elevated performances in the primaries all across the US his year. Our candidates have raised gobs of money and the House Democrats have outraised little Mikie J. Inflation kept rising, job growth kept slowing, his glorious war went to shit, and his poll numbers just keep falling. The VP turned out to be a lifeless dud. His friend Lindsay passed. An American anti-Trump was elected Pope. Orban fell in Hungary. Putin kept getting humiliated by that little guy from Ukraine. His business partners in Saudi Arabia are getting routed by the Houthis. The Labour Party in the UK found a new leader and pushed the MAGA Reform Party into second place and escalating disarray. Vivek took a big, vile swing and gave away Ohio. Paxton turned out to be the shit candidate everyone warned him about. He had to fire lots of misbehaving staff, almost all women of course. The leaks from inside became a geyser. Then this week his allies in Serbia, Brazil, and Israel all lost their elections - yikes! The oligarch funded Senate firewall collapsed. And the old, unwell, addled, traitorous, rapacious, venal, big, blubbery baby man was forced to confront his failure and decline by having to campaign to embarrassingly small crowds in places like Kansas, Mississippi, Nebraska, and South Carolina. He began repeatedly gushing over the beauty and strength of manly men, perhaps as a way of attempting to restore his own. Texas, of all places, was falling. The faithful weren’t showing up in the early vote and young, Black, and Hispanic voters - them - were showing up bigly. So, what to do? RETREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and throw Todd and the “Justice” Department at the elections. Here’s the home page of Politico right now: Impotent he is becoming: Yes, the Washington Post actually found Adam Hamilton up by 9 points today. We haven’t won a Senate race in Kansas in 94 years. Here are the other polls we are seeing this week. Lots and lots of blue! Here’s the generic ballot from FiftyPlusOne: Here’s my latest early vote summary - turnout is running way ahead of 2022, and we continue to see a remarkable surge of young, Black, and Hispanic voters into the electorate. “Those people” are turning out in big numbers against the rancid racist in the White House: As for throwing Todd and the DOJ at the elections this is not something we should take lightly or dismiss. Given that both Bolsonaro and Bibi have claimed their elections were rigged and illegitimate - for of course the only way mighty MAGA men could lose is if the other side cheated - we have to anticipate that Trump is going to wage an intense campaign to delegitimize the elections, our victories, and our eventual assumption of power. The likelihood that the electoral battle with Trump goes on for weeks or months has risen - it is what he did the last time he lost in 2020 - and we must be prepared, not scared. DOJ initiated subpoenas are flying in Alaska and California. US Attorneys have been turned into localized regime actors advancing their malicious schemes. On-line accounts are claiming Rs are winning the early vote not getting routed - as a predicate to make the case for our “rigging” and “stealing” the election. Trump helped Bolsonaro avoid prosecution and is allowing him to set up something like a government exile - a very ominous sign about where Trump’s head is at right now. The first thing we must do is to keep driving the early vote, run up the score, and win this election by as big a margin as possible. Bolsonaro and Bibi are fighting, but Orban in Hungary and Vucic in Serbia chose not to. It is not a given that he fights and what we do in the next few days may determine whether he does. But if he does we will be ready. What can you do? Call your state or local Democratic Party today and volunteer for this weekend, Election Day, and beyond if needed. Go to work. Drive the early vote. Protect our election on Election Day and beyond. Go to work. Do not sit idle and become overwhelmed by worry these next few days. Do. Tom Bonier is coming by at 315pm to talk about the latest polling and what we are seeing in the early vote. It will be a great way to cap off what has been a very good week for us, and as we prepare for this critical, final weekend. Join us by clicking here at 315pm. Four Days Out A Desperate And Rattled Trump Is Cancelling Rallies, Throwing DOJ At The Elections, And Getting His …
Patrick Stewart Told Me He Cried During Barbie
Patrick Stewart Told Me He Cried During BarbieThe 86-Year-Old Actor Died on Wednesday. Here’s What He Said to Me Three Years Ago.
In 2023, Patrick Stewart released the memoir he’d written during COVID. He sent 750 pages to his editor, who had him cut it by nearly half. It’s a strange account of a talent that propelled him to unexpected arenas. And of needless regret about yelling “Salt-N-Pepa” to introduce the group on Saturday Night Live, just because John Mulaney made fun of it. I just finished your memoir and was interested in what you felt when you first went to the movies. It did open my life. And that’s what happened a couple of weeks ago, when I saw Barbie. Sorry, your British accent threw me for a second. Barbie? I knew nothing about Barbie. Never been in my life at all. And all of a sudden, my New York Times are full of Barbie, Barbie, Barbie. So I said to Sunny, my wife, “You know, I don’t know anything about this world of Barbie, but I must go see it because the impact it’s having has got to teach me something.” Well, I struggled for the first hour and thought that I wasn’t going to make it. It seemed banal and trying to turn cuteness into something substantial, and really, cuteness isn’t. But then we drew towards the end of the movie and I found that I was engaged with it differently from how I had been for the first hour. And when we got to the last scenes, my eyes were full of tears. And I found myself connecting my life experience to the one that the film was illustrating. And I was unprepared for that. What’d you learn from going back and looking at your whole life and writing a memoir? I know I come off as a bit of a clown in some areas of the book, or maybe naive. I’ve been all those things. I mean, when I was a child, I sometimes bullied other children because I was a big child. And then I stopped growing, and now I’m shrinking. The final scene of Star Trek: Picard was scripted to have Picard with his dog, but that was never shot. Why? It is entirely my fault that it never got shot. The day that we were going to shoot it, which was the last day of shooting, we had so much unfinished work to do. I was flying to London the next day. So I said, look, let’s put that scene on one side. It’s only me in front of green screen. We can shoot it anytime. All I need is the dog. Do you wish you’d stayed and shot that last scene? I wish we’d shot it. I was the captain and I was by far the oldest person in the permanent cast. And that’s why I thought it was up to me to suggest, guys, let’s make the shooting easier. Let’s not shoot my one-man scene. I wish we had, because it still lives in my head. What did you learn from writing obituaries? I absorbed the style that the obituaries for the newspaper I was working on required. And once or twice, I was told off for saying inappropriate things. I was 15 when my local newspaper, persuaded by my headmaster, took me on as a trainee journalist. I finally persuaded them to let me do a theater review, because I said, “I’ve done a lot of local amateur acting. Give me a shot.” So I saw it, and I wrote it longhand on a notepad. The next morning, I put my copy down in front of the subeditor, and he started reading it. And then I heard this groan come up. He said, “Patrick, what’s this? What have you written? What does ‘intimate’ mean?” And I said, “Oh, well, closeness, connection.” And he said, “We can’t have language like that in this paper,” and made a big gesture of crossing it out with a red pen. Because I had learned the phrase intimate theater, and it meant something to me, but it didn’t mean anything to Henry Pickles. When you read Shakespeare’s sonnets on Instagram, what did you take away from them? Some of them are really brutal. They’re so difficult at times to understand, and particularly to speak out loud. I have gotten used to people calling from the other side of the street, “I love Star Trek.” “I love X-Men.” And now, “I love your sonnets. More sonnets.” Somebody in a car shouted that out to me the other day. And I’ve read them all. And there are no more sonnets. There are no more sonnets.
