Afterward, students who billed the company at the higher rate reported feeling more pressed for time—even though they had completed the same tasks for the same amount of time as students who billed at the lower rate. In other words, making students' time worth a lot of money was all it took to turn them into stressed-out, time-squeezed consultants." From Happy Money: The Science of Happier Spending by Elizabeth Dunn and Michael Norton   What I'm reading "Why strict churches are strong" (Slate). You can read the associated paper here. TL;DR: discourage free riders who take more from a community than they give.   Documentary I'm rewatching ​Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville. I deeply appreciated the nuanced portrayal. The archival and outtake footage alone made it well worth watching. The official description: "Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at how an anonymous chef who lived his life unabashedly became a world-renowned cultural icon." Find the trailer here. There are certainly lessons to be learned from the light and the dark, and this film raises important questions for me. For example: How can you emulate certain characteristics of tortured outliers without inadvertently absorbing beliefs and behaviors that contributed to their pain? Is it even possible? Tony's story is inspiring, incredible, and tragic, and this film does an admirable job of capturing all three.   Interview I'm watching "NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's Vision for the Future" by Cleo Abram (@cleoabram). This is a great example of video adding value to a podcast interview (can we call them "podcasts" anymore?), particularly concept visualization.
