Good Morning! On this day in 1883, the Southern Pacific Railroad completed its transcontinental Sunset Route from New Orleans to California, consolidating its dominance over rail traffic to the Pacific.

A quick note from The Flyover team: This week, our entire Flyover team is doing something we don't get to do very often: we're all flying to Colorado to be in the same room together.

Because our writers, developers, and sales folks are spread across the country, most of our work happens over Slack, Zoom, and email. This fly-in gives us the chance to plan, debate, whiteboard, and importantly to get to know each other better as humans. We'll be spending our time talking about how to make The Flyover even better for you in 2026.

700 ICE Agents Are Leaving Minnesota

Border czar Tom Homan announced Wednesday the Trump administration will withdraw 700 federal immigration officers from Minnesota effective immediately, leaving about 2,000 agents in the state.

Homan announced the 25% reduction after touting "unprecedented cooperation" from Minnesota county jails to transfer immigration suspects to ICE before release.

President Trump said he learned the administration could use "a little bit of a softer touch" on immigration enforcement following the backlash.

The partial drawdown comes after federal agents killed two U.S. citizens during separate January altercations in Minneapolis. The Department of Homeland Security initially defended the killings before the administration moderated its tone as public opinion soured.

Washington Post Cuts One-Third of Staff

The Washington Post laid off roughly one-third of its employees on Wednesday in what former executive editor Martin Baron described as one of the darkest days in the newspaper's 150-year history.

Executive Editor Matt Murray announced the "strategic reset" would end the current sports desk, restructure local coverage, reduce international reporting to about 12 bureaus. The plan also eliminates the books desk, and suspend the flagship podcast Post Reports.

The Jeff Bezos-owned paper has struggled with declining revenue despite the Amazon founder's $260 billion net worth as the world's fourth-richest person. The Washington Post Guild said 400 people have left the staff in the past three years.

Minute Maid Ends Frozen Juice Era

Minute Maid is discontinuing its frozen juice concentrates after 80 years, ending production of the iconic canned juices that became an American breakfast staple for generations of families.

The Coca-Cola Company cited shifting consumer preferences as the reason for phasing out flavors including orange juice, lemonade, limeade, pink lemonade, and raspberry lemonade by April.

The frozen concentrate originated during World War II as an alternative to lemon crystals given to soldiers for vitamin C, launching the Minute Maid brand in 1946.

Nostalgic fans flooded social media with memories of watching parents mix the frozen slush or eating it straight from the can. The company said it will focus on ready-to-drink beverages as American tastes shift away from frozen concentrates.
