A Gwinnett County police officer died and a second officer was hospitalized after both were shot during an investigation at a hotel near Stone Mountain on Sunday morning.

The suspect, Kevin Andrews, 35, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and jailed. His criminal history includes convictions for guns, violent crimes, and narcotics.

Police identified the officers as Officer Pradeep Tamang, 25, who died of his wounds at the hospital, and Master Police Officer David Reed, who was hospitalized in stable condition.

Authorities said the shooting was unprovoked and took place after the officers began talking with the suspect about a fraud case at a Holiday Inn Express.

Southern and central Georgia received a rare blast of snow over the weekend, with Savannah getting about an inch that kept street crews busy overnight Saturday.

In north Georgia, the storm and arctic air combined to turn the mountains and parts of metro Atlanta into a snowy scene. Buford received 6 inches of snow.

An extreme cold warning was in effect for much of north and central Georgia until early Sunday afternoon. The forecast called for a warming trend starting today.

Douglasville native Elana Meyers Taylor is heading to another Winter Olympics, and this time she's taking her 5- and 3-year-old sons along for the ride.

"They don't want to sit on planes. They don't want to stay still. They don't want to sit for meals or anything like that. So it is absolute chaos," she said.

The veteran bobsled pilot and past medal winner is Georgia's lone representative on Team USA for this year's Winter Olympics in Italy.

She faces an unexpected new challenge related to a dispute over the selection of her brakeman. She's since referred questions over the dispute to U.S. Olympic officials.

Meyers Taylor, 41, seeks her first gold medal after winning a total of five bronze and silver medals in the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 games.

Unknown Number Calling? It's Not Random

The BBC caught scam call center workers on hidden cameras as they laughed at the people they were tricking. One worker bragged about making $250k from victims. The disturbing truth? Scammers don't pick phone numbers at random. They buy your data from brokers.

Once your data is out there, it's not just calls. It's phishing, impersonation, and identity theft. That's why we recommend Incogni: They delete your info from the web, monitor and follow up automatically, and continue to erase data as new risks appear.
