DOJ Probes LMU Over Antisemitism Claims

The Department of Justice is investigating Lincoln Memorial University's DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine over allegations it discriminated against Jewish students, officials announced last week.

The probe centers on a new handbook policy that states religious holidays do not qualify for excused absences from exams, a change made before the spring semester.

A Knoxville rabbi says at least two Orthodox Jewish students were previously granted accommodations but now face conflicts with Passover and other holy days.

The investigation, conducted under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, will examine whether the federally funded university violated civil rights protections.

Cigna Restores Children's Hospital Contract

Cigna has reversed its decision to terminate its contract with East Tennessee Children's Hospital, hospital leaders announced on Friday.

The insurer had planned to end the agreement on March 1 after notifying ETCH last May, raising concerns that roughly 27,000 patients could lose in-network coverage.

Hospital officials said Cigna recently submitted a comprehensive proposal, and the longstanding contract will now remain in effect without interruption.

ETCH called the move a positive outcome for families across East Tennessee who rely on the hospital for pediatric care.

Anakeesta Gifts Proposal Chair to Couple

Anakeesta surprised a Cookeville couple with the exact Chondola chairlift seat where their mountaintop proposal happened in October 2016, just as the ride prepares to retire.
