85 More Counties Added to Disaster Declaration

Gov. Greg Abbott added another 85 counties to his previous disaster declaration on Sunday, bringing the total to 219 of the state's 254 counties. Over 40,000 homes and businesses in East Texas were affected by power outages yesterday morning.

The U.S. Department of Energy issued an emergency order on Sunday authorizing ERCOT to deploy backup generation resources at data centers and other major facilities to reduce the load on the state's power grid.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport saw nearly an inch of snowfall on Sunday, breaking a daily record from 1949. Over 500 flights were canceled at DFW and at nearby Dallas Love Field yesterday, and dozens of school districts in the region remain closed today.

Residents of Covington in Hill County were without water yesterday after the city's pumps froze, prompting emergency officials to deploy two diesel jet heaters. On Sunday morning, a water main break drenched a Houston Whataburger and worsened already-icy road conditions.

Texans Help Each Other Out

Texans have stepped up to help each other out over the last few days as ice and snow blanketed much of the state.

Hotel staff across the Brazos Valley have worked around the clock to provide a warm place to stay for line workers, road crews, and emergency personnel. In East Texas, residents with four-wheel drive vehicles gave rides to nurses and medical staff who had to work during the storm.

In Fort Worth, convenience store clerk Faris Hussain allowed a man who had nowhere else to go to warm up in Evans Food Mart, and he called paramedics when he learned one of his regular customers was lying motionless in the cold nearby.

In Lewisville, firefighters rescued a woman from an icy retention pond after she entered it to retrieve a dog that had fallen in.

Luka Doncic Surprises 22 Mavs Fans

Former Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic returned to the American Airlines Center for just the second time since the shocking trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers last February.

He surprised 22 fans who expressed support for him online by offering them suite seating to the game, a meet-and-greet, and swag bags.

Doncic had never met any of the fans he treated, each of whom was contacted by his business manager before the game. Among those were Kevin Gray Jr. of DLLS Sports, Kirk Henderson of Mavs Moneyball, and the creators of the Mavs Film Room podcast.

Gray thanked Doncic for the "incredible and unforgettable night," while Henderson described the experience as "pretty special." Each of them received a Luka Doncic Lakers jersey and a pair of his signature shoes.

Doncic scored 33 points in the Lakers' 116-110 comeback win. "I was happy to be back here," he said after the game. "It's always gonna be a special place for me."
