Midstate Faces Winter Storm Possibility

Middle Tennessee could see its first major winter storm of the season between Friday night and Monday morning, with snow and ice in the forecast.

Cold air is expected to settle in Friday evening as a storm system may form to the south, but forecasters say timing and impact remain uncertain due to conflicting models.

The forecasted storm is part of a larger cold weather system expected to move through the South, stretching from Texas to the Carolinas.

If the storm materializes, it has the potential to bring hazardous travel and freezing conditions.

Students Raise Flags Over Lane College

Students at Lane College in Jackson are speaking out about unsafe and unsanitary dorm conditions, including mold, pests, and a lack of basic supplies.

Freshmen and sophomores say they've been forced to clean shared spaces themselves, while alumni have stepped in to donate essentials like soap and toilet paper.

Complaints also include financial aid delays, raw meat served in the cafeteria, and poor communication from campus leadership.

The school released a statement Friday, but students say it doesn't address where money is going or how conditions will improve.

Japan Picks Nashville as World Cup Base

Japan’s national soccer team will call Nashville home during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, using the city as its training and living base.

The team will prepare in Music City before heading to Arlington, Texas, for its first group stage match on June 14.

Japan is in Group F alongside the Netherlands, Tunisia, and the yet-to-be-determined winner of UEFA Playoff B.

The move puts Nashville on the global soccer map as an international hub during the tournament, following last week's news that Chattanooga will play home base to Spain's team.
