More than 3,500 incoming freshmen are potentially eligible for the initiative, according to a Tuesday announcement. Students must rank in the top 25% of their high school class and have financial need or be eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. Tuition for the current school year is $12,092, and about 70% of UNT's 46,000 students receive scholarships or financial aid. "As the largest university in North Texas, UNT has a special responsibility to expand access to transformative educational opportunities across our region and beyond," said UNT President Harrison Keller, who launched a $100 million capital campaign last November. Similar programs have been introduced by several other schools in Texas, including TCU, Baylor, Rice, Texas A&M, the University of Houston, Texas State University, and the University of Texas System. | USGS Discovers Huge Oil Deposits The U.S. Geological Survey announced Wednesday that the Permian Basin contains huge deposits of previously undiscovered oil and natural gas in the Woodford and Barnett shales. Since the 1990s, the formations have produced 26 million barrels of oil—enough to fuel the U.S. for just one day. The report identified 1.6 billion barrels of oil and 28.3 trillion cubic feet of technically recoverable natural gas. At the nation's current rate of consumption, those amounts would supply the United States with 10 weeks of oil and 10 months of natural gas. In some places, the resources are as much as 20,000 feet below the surface—beyond the reach of previously available technology. "The shift to horizontal drilling with fracking has revolutionized oil production, and we've changed with it," said USGS geologist Christopher Schenk. Several producers are currently targeting the formations for development, according to the Journal of Petroleum Technology. | Aggies Develop Barbecue Sauce Students in the Texas A&M Food Science Club have developed Aggie-branded barbecue sauce that can be purchased online and delivered via FedEx or picked up in person. What began as a small experiment has turned into an ongoing project that lets students get a feel for "what an actual processing plant looks like." So far, a tomato-based sauce called Game Day and a mustard-based sauce called Aggie Gold are available for purchase. The club is working on a spicy flavor called Old Army and a maroon-colored lemonade dubbed Reveille Refresher. "We are not just learning food science; we are applying it," said junior Marcus Waskom. "We develop the recipes, run the processing line, and sell the final product." | | | Flying together with our sponsor Millions of women experience bladder leaks, urgency, or discomfort. Recent scientific research is uncovering a new piece of the puzzle: the urinary microbiome. Recent medical studies have found that the balance of bacteria in the urinary system is closely linked to bladder symptoms and overall comfort. When helpful bacteria are out of balance, it may contribute to irritation, sensitivity, and leaks. That's why many women are now exploring microbiome-focused support. FemiCore is a daily supplement formulated with targeted probiotics and plant-based ingredients designed to support urinary balance and bladder comfort. It's not a medication, but it offers a science-based way to support bladder health as part of a wellness routine. To learn how this emerging research works, watch the free educational video below.
