At 100 years old, British Royal Marine veteran Don Butt has been awarded France's Légion d'honneur, more than 80 years after landing on Juno Beach in the first wave of the 1944 invasion of Normandy.

Don, who helped land troops under heavy fire, believed for decades he was too young to qualify for the medal.

With help from a fellow marine, his application was approved just in time to fulfill what he called his "final wish." The medal was presented in an emotional ceremony by the Royal Marines.

His family called the moment a dream come true, and the Marines praised his quiet service and lasting sacrifice. Watch a video.
