From the Founder's Desk:

Why I Want The Flyover Readers to Own The Flyover

When I decided to accept investors in The Flyover, one thing mattered to me more than anything: that our readers would have the chance to become our owners. If I had my druthers, every single investor in The Flyover would be a Flyover reader. That's why we've structured this offering with you in mind:

  • Bonus shares for all The Flyover readers who invest

Legally, the offering is open to any U.S. citizen. But my heart—and our strategy—are focused on keeping ownership in the hands of our readers. Right now, we're less than $84,000 away from hitting $4 million raised—80% full. Once we cross that mark and announce our final investment date, I expect the final 20% to be filled.

That's why I'm asking our readers one more time: will you consider investing in The Flyover today?

This is the final month to invest.

But some of our readers are asking: "How do I get a return on my investment?"

Here's why The Flyover is different:

  • Already profitable after just two years (most start-ups never are)

  • 80% gross margins and 24% net income (exceptional margins)

  • In the top 1% of media start-ups (proven strength)

How investors could realize returns:

  1. A Sale—Only to a partner who shares our values. (CNN or The New York Times need not apply.)

  2. Public Listing—Shares traded openly on an exchange.

  3. Profit Distributions (Dividends)—Because we're already profitable, this is possible.

Recap: Sale. Listing. Distributions.

My Closing Pitch

More than 2,600 Flyover readers have already joined us as investors. We're just $84,000 away from our next milestone—and once we hit it, we will announce our closing date. If you've been considering investing, now is the moment. Will you help us finish this round and together make The Flyover a news company truly owned by its readers.

Will you be one of the final investors who helps us keep The Flyover fully reader-owned?

Gov. Abigail Spanberger got right to work after she was inaugurated as Virginia's first female leader this weekend.

"Today, we are responding to the moment," Spanberger said. "We are setting the tone for what Virginians can expect over the next four years: pragmatic leadership focused on lowering costs and delivering results."

The Democrat signed 10 executive orders addressing affordability, housing, and education. She also rescinded Executive Order 47, which required state and local law enforcement agencies to help enforce federal civil immigration laws.

Spanberger quickly appointed 27 new members to the boards of the University of Virginia, George Mason University, and the Virginia Military Institute. Three members of UVA's Board of Visitors had resigned ahead of her swearing in, including Rector Rachel Sheridan and Vice Rector Porter Wilkinson.

A federal judge granted a preliminary injunction that will allow Dominion Energy to restart work on its Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project.

The project had been on hold since Dec. 22, when the Trump administration halted all offshore wind farms due to unspecified national security concerns. Three different judges have ruled against the administration.

"Our team will now focus on safely restarting work to ensure CVOW begins delivery of critical energy in just weeks," a spokesman for Dominion said. The delay had been costing the company $5 million per day.

Coastal Virginia is projected to eventually generate 2.6 gigawatts of electricity, enough to power up to 660,000 homes.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day events and service opportunities are planned across the Commonwealth today in memory of the slain civil rights leader.

In Norfolk, volunteers prepared meals at the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, and the city hosts "A Celebration of Unity & Freedom in Song" beginning at 9 a.m.

"MLK Day is a day on, not a day off," according to the Community Foundation in Richmond. Its day of service begins at 9 a.m. at the Black History Museum of Virginia.

The Harrison Museum of African American Culture in Roanoke will host a public conversation at 6 p.m. about King's legacy, centered around the city's own history.

Universities plan talks throughout the week, including one at the University of Richmond tomorrow and one at Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday.
