We are pundits, and as pundits, we get to have opinions, even before all of the evidence is in. No surprises here: we both do. But that’s not what law enforcement and government officials are supposed to do. They’re supposed to wait for the evidence to come in and for a thorough, objective investigation to be completed before reaching conclusions with legal consequences. That’s not what has happened here, with the President and Secretary Noem weighing in shortly after Good’s death. Even if you believe the shooting wasn’t justified, as Elie and I both do, there are still a lot of legal issues to parse.
