The Pictures You Want

Before I left on my book tour, I got in some quality time with the chickens. So many of you have asked for (and even demanded—you know who you are) more chicken pictures to help you get through the week, that I thought I’d share some photos with you tonight. I know it’s been a while!

Pickles is the chicken most likely to surprise you by flying up to your shoulder when your back is turned. She’s surprisingly affectionate (for a chicken) and I always enjoy these moments.

Toot is definitely the chicken equivalent of a social media influencer. She loves posing for pictures and seems to really understand what’s going on when you point a phone her direction.

Poor Omeletta, normally the biggest and fluffiest of our chickens, is molting and generally sort of a sad version of her normal cheerful self.

One of my favorite backyard sights is chickens wandering around in the lavender bed. This is Leeda.

Everyone was super happy about the special treats I brought out for them. It’s really important to fluff up their diets as they work through the fall molt so they’ll come out on the other side with beautiful, renewed feathers and get back to the serious business of laying eggs!
