Trump Confirms Memphis Guard Deployment

President Trump said on Friday that he will send National Guard troops to Memphis, marking the city’s first such mobilization since 1978.

Trump called the city “deeply troubled,” adding that crime in Memphis has fallen because his administration sent FBI and federal officers months ago.

Memphis police data shows homicides are down nearly 30% in 2025, part of a broader decline in crime.

Gov. Bill Lee and Sen. Marsha Blackburn backed Trump’s plan, calling it necessary to make Memphis safe, while Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris blasted it as “anti-democratic."

University Tackles Kirk Shooting Aftermath

Lebanon’s Cumberland University canceled an October lecture with former MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd and cut ties with two employees for comments related to the assassination of conservative advocate Charlie Kirk.

Dowd was dropped from MSNBC after suggesting Kirk’s rhetoric contributed to the shooting, remarks the school called “callous and insensitive.”

Separately, Cumberland dismissed Dr. Michael Rex and Max Wood after one of them posted “Karma is beautiful” online about Kirk’s death.

Other Tennessee colleges, including Middle Tennessee State University and East Tennessee State University, have also disciplined staff over social media posts following the killing.

Community Defends Bible-Reading Coach

Clarksville community members rallied Friday to support high school football coach and resource officer Trey Campbell, who left a game after being told to stop reading his Bible at halftime and leading a "faith over fear" chant.

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System said his actions violated court rulings that bar public employees from promoting religion in schools.

Campbell is currently still employed but has been placed on temporary leave.

Congressional candidate Tres Wittum organized the prayer event, handing out Bibles and urging support for Campbell’s stand.
