Preet and I intended to spend 20 minutes together this morning, discussing the Comey indictment. Instead, we spent almost an hour parsing the indictment, possible defense strategies, and how we expect the court to handle the case, and also, the context for the indictment—the moment we are living in. Whether you believe this was the moment that we crossed the Rubicon or that we were already there before this happened, this is now the moment so many of us have most feared, the moment where Trump firmly asserts control over the criminal justice system and uses it to punish his enemies. This morning, Trump was asked by a reporter, “Now that Comey has been indicted, who is the next person on your list?” The response was, “It’s not a list, but I think they’ll be others. I mean, they’re corrupt. These were corrupt radical left Democrats.” There has never been a more important moment to stay informed. That’s what Civil Discourse is here for.
