We started out with knitting, as knitters always do, before we took off on a wide-ranging conversation. Many of the topics came from the excellent comments Civil Discourse readers left for me yesterday, when I asked what you were interested in hearing us discuss. We ended up on a topic many of you flagged, “soft secession,” or what I refer to as “functional federalism”—the role state and local leaders can play in outrunning the Trump administration’s power grab. It’s conversations like these, including your comments in the fast scrolling, but fun and interesting feed that accompanied our conversation, that keep me going.
