They made all sorts of promises. They are paid to solve problems. They are supposed to represent all their constituents.
Of course, very few of our elected representatives do their job. Fewer still ever seem to be willing to risk their job—none of them appear to take the oath they swore very seriously.
This is depressing and frustrating. It's wrong. But as we explore in Right Thing, Right Now, it has always been thus—even back to the time of the Romans. And perhaps this is why the Stoics tried to always focus on what they controlled—because as citizens of an imperfect government they knew this disappointment well.
The real question then, when we look at our politicians, is to ask how often we are living up to the standards that they fall so woefully short of. When was the last time you stood on principle? How much did that cost you? What problems are you solving in your community? What kind of compromises are you facilitating? What aisles are you reaching across?
How are you being a leader in your own life?
We control our votes and that matters. More directly though, we control our own example and our own actions. And so it is here, in our own lives and our own sphere of influences, that we must be the change we wish to see in the world.
You may not love the numbers, but ignore them, and they'll quietly undo everything you've built.
You shouldn't have to sacrifice growth for hours on the books, so why not let a professional handle it? By hiring a Financial Expert, you can take control of your time and peace of mind, knowing your finances are being done right.
