Trump has reportedly committed in principle to providing “security guarantees” to Ukraine to safeguard its frontier from Russia following a possible peace deal. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with President Trump on Monday at the White House. European leaders, who could be part of a Ukraine security pledge, have also been invited to Monday's meeting. | D.C. Police Chief to Remain in Control The Trump administration agreed to keep the Washington, D.C. police chief in control of the Metropolitan Police Department, a day after Attorney General Pam Bondi said Drug Enforcement Administration Chief Terry Cole would take over. Instead, Cole will serve as a "designee" tasked with directing D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser to provide any services the federal government may need to enforce federal law in the District. Bondi also indicated the administration would continue to pressure D.C. leaders to help federal authorities aggressively pursue immigrants in the country illegally. The administration walked back the takeover effort after a lawsuit brought by D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb. | Library Book Returned After 82 Years A book was returned to the San Antonio Public Library nearly 82 years late with a note hoping there was no fee, adding, “Grandma won’t be able to pay it anymore.” The book, Your Child, His Family, and Friends, was checked out in July 1943 and returned in June by a person in Oregon after sorting through boxes from a deceased parent. The library was able to give the family some good news. It ended overdue fines in 2021, or the three-cent daily penalty would have totaled nearly $900. Enjoy reading The Flyover? For 20 years, Domino’s Pizza ran a famous marketing campaign promising to deliver your pizza in 30 minutes or the pizza would be free. It ended in 1993 and will likely never return. Why? In one word: Lawsuits. A series of accidents linked the speedy delivery promise to dangerous driving and traffic accidents. The company faced multi-million-dollar legal judgments amid growing public concern over speeding pizza delivery drivers. Today, real-time tracking and quality have taken precedence over speed for food delivery. Companies like Uber Eats and DoorDash will give a general range of drop-off times, but no guarantee of high-speed delivery. Worth noting: Despite the change in the U.S., Domino’s continues to offer 30-minute delivery in some international markets—with restrictions. Did you ever get a Domino’s pizza in 30 minutes—or were they late and the pizza was free?
