However, he’s not unfamiliar with Washington, D.C. having served there during both the Obama and Biden administrations. Congressman Figures represents Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District. He was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, where he attended public schools. Inspired by his parents, Shomari has dedicated his life to public service. His father, the late Michael Figures, was a state senator and lawyer who fought for civil rights in Alabama, while his mother, Vivian Figures, served on the Mobile City Council and is now a state senator. Shomari attended the University of Alabama for both his undergraduate and law degrees. Shomari was President Obama’s White House Domestic Director of Presidential Personnel. He later served as a White House Liaison at the Department of Justice before becoming a counsel in the United States Senate. Shomari returned to the Department of Justice during the Biden Administration. He is married to Dr. Kalisha Dessources Figures. They have three children. Many years ago—I’m not sure if he remembers this—I was quizzing him about what it would take for him to come home and run for office. He told me it absolutely wasn’t happening. I’m so glad it did! Alabama is well served by Congressman Figures, and we’re lucky to have him joining us tonight!
