entrepreneur,
I know what it's like to be underestimated...
I also know what it's like to carry the weight of an entire business on your shoulders while secretly wondering if you're screwing up the things that matter most.
(In other words, I know what it's like to secretly wonder if the "underestimators" are right.)
For me, it showed up as avoidance.
I buried myself in work.
I told myself I was "doing it for the family."
But the truth is... I was missing more family dinners, soccer games, dance recitals than I was making, and the guilt ate at me.
One night, everything came to a head.
I came home late (again), and my wife was sitting up in bed. Eyes red.
I can't remember everything that was said that night, but there's one thing she said to me that I'll NEVER forget. She said...
"You can keep doing what you're doing, but you can't pretend like you're doing it for us anymore."
That's when I realized I didn't own my business...my business owned me.
That's when I had to ask, "What's it all for?"
That's when I knew I had to make a change.
And here's the thing: I'm not special.
I've met thousands of founders, and almost every one of them has a story like mine. (Maybe you're living one right now.)
...buried in busywork.
...disconnected from your team.
...disconnected from the people you love the most.
...avoiding the real problems (because they're just too heavy).
...all while feeling guilty because even with all the sacrifice, the business still isn't delivering the freedom we thought it would.
I know that guilt.
I know that disconnection.
And I know how easy it is to believe you're the only one.
But you're not.
You're not broken.
Your business isn't broken.
Your system is.
And once you see that...once you stop trying to be the hero and start building a business that can run without you...that's when everything changes.
It's never easy and it sure ain't perfect, but it does get a lot, lot better.
If you want help building that system, that's what we do at The Scalable Company.
My partners and I built this company because we know what it's like.
If you're still reading this, I think we can help.
