The University of Denver is scaling back its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs to comply with new directives from the Trump administration.

On Aug. 19, DU leaders said the school will end several programs, including race-based scholarships and DEI training for staff, in response to a Department of Justice memo issued in July.

The memo clarified the DOJ's stance that certain DEI practices constitute unlawful discrimination and warned that schools with such practices could lose federal funding.

In response, DU's Student Bar Association approved a resolution of no confidence in several administrators, including Chancellor Jeremy Haefner.

Article Icon 1Gas Spill Becomes State's Largest

A refined gasoline pipeline spill in La Plata County is now estimated at 97,000 gallons, making it the largest in Colorado since the state began tracking such spills in 2016.

The spill occurred Dec. 5, 2024, southeast of Durango, prompting residential evacuations. Enterprise Products, the pipeline's owner, initially reported the spill at 23,000 gallons, but revised the figure after state and tribal officials questioned the accuracy of the original estimate.

Benzene and other contaminants have leaked into the ground, posing health risks. State data indicates the nearby Animas River has not been affected, though monitoring continues.

Enterprise says it's recovered more than 20,000 gallons as part of a state-ordered corrective action plan.

Article Icon 1Three Bear Cubs Rescued in Durango

Colorado Parks and Wildlife rescued three orphaned bear cubs found roaming around Durango last week.

One of the cubs was filmed wandering through a local restaurant. See the video here. Another cub reportedly wound up at a local middle school.

CPW said the cubs became separated from one another because "humans chased them around" while trying to take photos, making the capture of all three "incredibly difficult."

The cubs were taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center in Del Norte, where they'll gain weight, socialize with other cubs, and eventually be released into the wild.

Learn From This Investor's $100M Mistake

Grammy-winning artist will.i.am passed on investing $200K in Airbnb in 2010. It'd be worth $100M+ today.

Now, the investors behind Venmo and Uber are backing another real estate disruptor. And this time, you can invest.
