Colorado lawmakers on Sunday passed a bill that would use state money to restore Medicaid funds for reproductive health care providers, namely Planned Parenthood, following federal cuts.

The bill, a response to funding cuts stemming from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, passed in a 43-19 party-line vote. Republicans opposed the measure, citing the state's $1.2 billion budget shortfall.

Also on Sunday, a Senate committee passed Senate Bill 4, a measure to revise and delay Colorado's first-in-the-nation law regulating artificial intelligence.

In its current form, the bill shifts some of the law's regulatory burden onto developers of AI—rather than businesses, schools, or governments using it—and pushes its implementation to May 2026.

The Lee Fire on the Western Slope is now 90% contained at 137,758 acres, just two acres short of tying the Hayman Fire as Colorado's fourth-largest wildfire on record, officials said Monday.

On Sunday, heavy rain prompted flash flood warnings in Rio Blanco County, where the Lee Fire's burn scar has heightened flood risk. Two mudslides were reported in the area.

While Rio Blanco County has downgraded many evacuation zones, others have been upgraded in Eagle County, where the Derby Fire, still 0% contained, now exceeds 5,300 acres.

Article Icon 1Cool, Rainy Week to End August

The cold front that moved into Colorado on Sunday will linger through the workweek, bringing cooler weather and daily storm chances across most of the state.

Highs will stay well below normal, in the 70s and low 80s, through Friday. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are possible every day, with the highest chances early in the week.

Elevated flash flood risk is expected to last all week, particularly along the southern Front Range and in burn scar areas on the Western Slope.

Drier, warmer weather will return in time for Labor Day Weekend, with fewer, mostly isolated storms and highs reaching the mid-80s.
