Hey there,
You made it to Day 05 of the How to Stop Procrastinating Mini-Course.
Whether you did every day's prompt, or missed one here or there, it's important to acknowledge every small win you did show up for. I guarantee that no matter how much you did, you now know more about procrastination than 99% of people.
In the last week, we've covered:
- What procrastination is, and how we define it
- The real cause of procrastination and why it's not laziness or bad time management
- Real tools that help overcome procrastination
You've also tested and tried a series of prompts and exercises to discover more about yourself and what works for you when it comes to developing a habit of action.
YOUR FINAL LESSON: You Don't Need Motivation. You Need Momentum.
The biggest takeaway I hope you get from these last five days is that solving procrastination isn't a one-time fix, it's about creating a new pattern of behavior. One where you are kinder to yourself, consult with your future self often, and get more comfortable in the discomfort.
I said I'd share my #1 favorite tool for procrastination today, so here it is:
Building a supportive environment.
Action is the key to motivation and results.
But the right environment is the hand that turns that key.
Your environment is a significant behavioral stimulus—in other words, you are influenced immensely by who and what you're surrounded by.
If you're surrounded by assholes, you might feel like sh*t. If your house is full of junk food, you'll probably eat more of it. You get the idea.
For me, what helps most is making success more likely, and even more convenient, by creating my environment to be as procrastination-proof as possible.
- For exercise, that looks like having weights at home so working out is more accessible.
- For writing, I'll cue up a playlist that stimulates my brain.
- For business, I surround myself with people that encourage and challenge my thinking around innovation and growth.
So how can you use this tool to better "procrastination-proof" your life?
Well, think about who and what you're surrounded by, and how that needs to change to support you in developing a habit of action.
To be honest with you, I created Momentum to be the kind of supportive environment that encourages this exact kind of growth.
As a member, you'll be surrounded by like-minded individuals who also want to develop a strong habit of action. You'll get helpful prompts just like I've been sending all week, and a space to share your breakthroughs and track your progress with one another.
It's not for everyone and it won't solve all your problems overnight. Change takes time, and Momentum is no silver bullet. But it can be the consistent push in the right direction that nudges you closer to the life you really want to be living, one small win at a time.
YOUR FINAL ACTION PROMPT
Reflecting back on the last 5 days, take some time to respond to these prompts.
- What was your most valuable lesson or breakthrough?
- If 5 days could make that much difference, what do you imagine 30 days could do?
- What about a whole year?
Inside Momentum, we've got more days of prompts and tools waiting for you, and you'll even save $50 if you decide to join for the whole year.
If you're interested in joining us, you can learn more about Momentum and join us here.
Either way, great job this week. I'm so glad you're here.
Mark
