I started a little early spring clean-up down at the coop today. Also, a little maintenance, like replacing the water bar that feeds a constant supply of clean water in from our rain barrel for the girls. It’s been out of commission after developing a crack during the winter freeze, and I’m not a whiz at fixing this kind of thing, so it’s going to take me a couple of tries to get it just right. But I did have the chance to get a few great photos while working to share with you tonight. The eggs are always pretty, and these were tasty too. One of my neighbors makes the best omelets, with a little goat cheese and some greens and tomato. I’ve taken to copying her approach. Highly recommended! This is Leeda. We’ve got some netting over the early greens in hopes we’ll get to eat at least some of them, but she seems intent on trying to figure the system out, and I wouldn’t bet against her. She’s a smart girl. Guida spent some time watching me knit while I was on a break. Even though our temperatures are just now turning pleasant, the garden seems to be ahead of schedule this year. We’ve already got a bumper crop of mint, so I made our first batch of sweet tea with dinner tonight and it was a welcome harbinger of spring. The tea is mostly mint with a bag of Earl Grey in the pot as well, and I mix it with a simple syrup made with about a thumb’s worth of chopped up ginger root. For something that takes so little time, it’s incredibly refreshing. I’ll be back tomorrow night with The Week Ahead. We’ll start off with the discovery hearing in the Manhattan criminal case Monday morning and we’ll wait to see whether Trump can come up with a bond in the civil fraud case by the end of the day. Tuesday brings the Mifepristone argument before the Supreme Court—if you haven’t already, take a look at last night’s Five Questions with Planned Parenthood’s former President, the amazing Cecile Richards. It’s one of the most important cases on the Court’s docket this term. And that only gets us through Tuesday. It’s going to be another week full of incessant legal and political developments. But then, you knew that. We’re in this together, Joyce You're currently a free subscriber to Civil Discourse with Joyce Vance . For the full experience, upgrade your subscription. |
