SNAP Buddy System Feeds Dozens

An East Nashville mother launched a “SNAP Grocery Buddy System” on Facebook to connect families affected by the federal SNAP food benefits cutoff with neighbors ready to help.

Launched by Brooke Tansley, the grassroots effort operates like a buddy system with a simple rule: comment if you need help; reply if you can offer it. She said she was moved to tears by how quickly the idea took off.

The post quickly connected 30 families with food aid within hours, and Tansley said she hopes others across Tennessee will start their own versions to support their communities.

Appalachian Roots Inspire TN Cookbook

East Tennessee's Jimmy Proffitt, a self-taught chef, has released his first cookbook, Seasoned in Appalachia, featuring 75 dishes rooted in family tradition and mountain living.

Proffitt's cookbook, inspired by his Shenandoah Valley roots, features hearty dishes such as green tomato pie and apple cinnamon biscuits while celebrating seasonal eating, foraging, and the stories behind each meal.

Families Worry for Loved Ones in Jamaica

Tennessee families are anxiously awaiting updates from loved ones stranded in Jamaica during Hurricane Melissa.

In Rutherford County, T.J. and Janice Jernigan lost contact with their daughter Jazzy after she sent storm videos on Tuesday morning.

Memphis, sisters Aaliceya and Destiny White were celebrating a birthday when the storm hit; their resort lost power, and they now face costly travel home.

Both families are leaning on faith and community support as the powerful storm continues its path.
